Parents Only: 套 Rubbers (Movie)

Since I return to work, I have been very busy day in day out (You can read about my typical working day over here). On weekends, Chubby and I couldn’t really find time to date too as he is either busy with his assignments or we are busy with our house hunting. So that day when he told me he was invited to the movie premiere of “套 Rubbers”, I was very happy to join him though I didn’t know what the movie was about (except it being a R21 local production).

The gift we received at the premiere. No prize for guessing what is inside.

I was really glad that we manage to attend as the movie was funny and entertaining. A welcome break from our hectic schedule.

The film is made up of 3 short stories that are not related to each other except that they all involve a common object, you guess it, condom. And the stories are all set on Valentine’s Day.

The first story is about an old couple, in their 60s, where the wife was throwing a tantrum at the husband as she found out that the husband had just engaged a prostitute. It then brings out how they forgot about their love for each other in the beginning. This short story reminds me that I should not take Chubby for granted and that we should work together to nourish our love for each other.

The second story is about a single career woman in her 30s and a durian flavored condom. It shows the desperation of single woman on valentine day.

The last story is about a young man who refuses to put on condom while having sex with his girlfriend. And was later punished for it in the most absurd but funny way.

This is a comedy with underlying messages for the viewers. Hence, don’t go in expecting some “artistic” film. Singlish and coarse language are used but makes the film feel closer to home (at least for someone from a Chinese speaking average family like me). So if you have time for a movie date, do go to the cinemas to support our local film makers. The movie will open on 30 April in the Cinemas.

Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post. We were at the premiere as Chubby “funded” the film through Indiegogo and they gave him tickets to the premiere.
